High tea at the Burj al Arab

Today I want to tell you about my high tea experience at the Burj al Arab in Dubai 🙂

First of all, already arriving at the Burj al Arab is spectacular. It is located on ist own little island and without a reservation or hotel booking you aren’t even allowed on the island! The hotel is also much larger than I had imagine and the perfectly white building is a great contrast to the mostly cloudless Dubai sky. Then upon entering the hotel you are left to just look around and especially up. I guess I must have literally stared up for a few minutes. The hotel lobby is almost as high as the building and has beautiful modern blue, white and gold decorations.

I was nicely greeted and accompanied to my table. At first I was offered a glass of sparkling date juice. I had never had this and I think it is a great alcoholfree alternative to champagne 🙂 Then I was presented with an impressive menu from which I could choose a tea. The first tea I chose white tea. Then I was presented with the first dish, a white chocolate mousse with fruit, very yummy. Afterwards I received a platter with a few small sandwiches. (Here it would have been nice to cater a bit more to vegetarian needs)

Next up was a small vegetable quiche with a very yummy (tomato-chili I’m guessing?) sauce. Afterwards I had a short break and was offered a selection of newspapers and relaxed a little and enjoyed the view.

Next up was probably my favorite scones with great fruit jams and a scoop of lychee sorbet with a candied rose petal. The scones were super fluffy and yummy!

I had finished my first tea by now and decided to try another one: fresh mint tea. It was even served in another style of tea can (a silver style one I had previously seen for Moroccan style tea). I was feeling pretty full already by now but there was still the grand final of my high tea, the last dish: a selection of beautiful cakes and french style pastries. They looked absolutely perfect and were nicely decorated. At the end of my high tea I went home with a pretty strong sugar-rush but also very happy 🙂
