While lunching some fine cuisine is always a good idea, lunching some fine cuisine with a panoramic view of the alps and nice sunshine is an even better idea! I recently went skiing in Lech, Austria and found the perfect lunch spot. I tried some international and some traditional Austrian dishes.
First of all, the location: The restaurant Murmeli is located perfectly in Oberlech on the mountain and has a great sun terrace. Make sure to reserve a table beforehand though since it is almost always fully booked – it’s totally worth it though! The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed and the staff is great.
Upon sitting down at our marvelous table we were handed the menu and served some veggies with dips as a little entree while deciding on the real food. I chose to have a tuna-salmon-avocado tartar with a cucumber sauce as a starter:
As a main course I decided on something a bit more traditional: dumplings (Semmelknödel) with a cheesy sauce. Semmelknödel are made from the dough of bread and are then spiced and formed into small little bowls. My dish contained three different dumplings: one flavored with spinach, one with beetroot and one classic one.
Lastly, as the dessert I ate the must try for every Austria visitor: Kaiserschmarrn. It’s a bit like a pancake but separated into smaller bits and garnished with rum raisins and your fruit yam of choice (normally a cooked plums or an apple puree). It is truly my favorite Austrian dish I must say and I can only recommend it to anyone.
